In 1955 Hotel City opened, and was named at the event. Back then, the clientel was mainly sailors in need of a room, when they were at shore. The hotel has always been family owned, since it was John Mortensens - the current owner - parents who founded the hotel. John Mortensen bought it off his parents in 1977, and in 2008/9 the whole hotel went through its third large renovation, where it was furnished with Arne Jacobsens Svane-chairs in the lobby, 7'ere in the bar and Svane-chairs in all the Superior rooms. Meanwhile all the hotel rooms were renovated so they appear in a classical timeless Danish design.
Today Best Western Hotel City stands as a modern, cosy and calm hotel in the heart of Copenhagens cultural quarter.
